Mrs. Mary Barnaby, age 88, a pioneer resident of the Winter community, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Cumberland where she had been making her home the past 14 years.

The deceased was born Aug. 1, 1875, in Wisconsin. She was united in marriage to Herman Barnaby on Feb. 21, 1895. They came to the Winter community to make their home in 1899, moving onto a farm north of Winter in what was known as the Buckwheat school district.

Her husband preceded her in death on May 14, 1932. One son, Harvey, passed away in Dec. 1923.

Survivors are seven daughters, Mrs. John (Jessie) Thayer of Detroit, MI; Mrs. Wm (Rose) Dean of Ashland; Mrs. David (Josephine) Samlaska and Mrs. Julius (Lillian)Jacobson of Cumberland; Mrs. James (Myrtle)Lockwood, Mrs. Bob (Winifred) Bachand and Mrs. William (Cecelia) West of Albany, CA; two sons, Lawrence and Lloyd of Winter; 25 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Tainter and Mrs. Ellis Edwards of Hayward.
