Friends of the Tuscobia Trail

The Friends group is a 501 C 3 non-profit organization committed to developing the 74 mile Tuscobia Trail that was originally “The Omaha” railroad line. This friends group was created in 2001 to work closely with various user groups, communities and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

We are dedicated to protect, preserve and restore native ecosystems along the trail corridor; provide educational programming regarding habitat, wise usage and trail conditions; to developing facilities, trail hubs and historical and village enhancements and to procuring financial resources in order to achieve these goals.

In working with various associations, it is hoped that a wide variety of trail improvements will be made as well as common signage developed for the four-county trail. The trail is open to ATV use in the spring, summer, and fall and open to snowmobile users in the winter. Hiking, skiing, and cycling is also encouraged.

The Tuscobia Trail is owned by the State of Wisconsin and extends from Rice Lake to Park Falls, weaving through beautiful scenery, over creeks and rivers, and next to quaint villages such as Birchwood, Couderay, Radisson, Ojibwa, Winter, Loretta, and Draper. A multi-colored map of the entire trail plus features on each town and village is available free from all Chambers of Commerce’s along the trail. You may visit the trail on our web site at: https://friendsoftuscobiatrail.com/ or

One of our main projects at present is to renovate our 1905 historic Omaha railroad depot so that it can house the Winter Area Chamber of Commerce Welcoming Center, the Happyland Historical display and also serve as a trailhead for various users of the trail including hikers, ATV and snowmobile users and more. We are now actively in the process of securing available grants and donations to help with this goal.

We are a 501 C 3 nonprofit, your donation is tax deductible.
